On Second Order effects 6/3/2026

Perhaps becuase of the impact of AI that is already being felt on society right now I've been doing a lot of thinking about second order effects and how they impact society in general.

A small amusing aside of that: All current like hybrid and EV vehicles have a sort of 'tonal signature' that sound designers spend a ton of time making for these cars. They likely always think about humans, probably unaware humans are their 'target' audience for these sounds.

However, my dogs have basically been 100% trained by the Toyota hovercraft sound our car makes at slow speeds and come sprinting to the door or the gate when they hear it. Even when we are both home and our car is happily parked.

It would be neat if they added a sub-element that the dogs could percieve that was randomized based on the indivual cars so there is less chance that they all sound the same to them, and thus more happy greetings and less confusion.
